ImageWare Systems Debuts Biometrics-as-a-Service Identity Authentication Solution Combined With FUJITSU Retail Solution Market Place
ImageWare Systems, Inc. (OTCQB: IWSY) (ImageWare), a leader in mobile and cloud-based, multi-modal biometric identity management solutions, announced today that their GoVerifyID™ software application will be demonstrated within an omni-channel workflow transacting with the FUJITSU Retail Solution Market Place. The demo, with GoVerifyID identity authentication running on the FUJITSU Cloud IaaS Trusted Public S5, will be shown at next week's Fujitsu Forum in Munich, Germany.
FUJITSU Retail Solution Market Place is an omni-channel Point of Service (PoS) application that allows retailers to significantly simplify and enhance the customer shopping experience and increase revenue while reducing IT costs. FUJITSU Market Place achieves this by supporting enterprise-wide transaction and order fulfillment to deliver a consistent and seamless buying experience to customers across traditional point of service, online and mobile channels.
FUJITSU Market Place breaks down the barrier between orders and in-store shopping by combining both in a single transaction. For customers, this means consistent pricing, promotions and customer experience whether online, in-store or using a mobile device. Combined with the IWS Identity Authentication Solution, retailers and customers can be more secure in their transaction processing, ensuring that the person attempting the transaction has been authenticated and verified. The result is a lower risk of transaction fraud, whether online or in a physical retail store.
"We are very pleased to demonstrate ImageWare Systems' Biometrics-as-a-Service Identity Authentication Solution at Fujitsu Forum in Munich," stated Rowan Cape, director of Global Retail Software Solutions at Fujitsu America, Inc. "Adding IWS's fast and powerful biometric authentication to transaction processing elevates the level of trust that can be established between retailers and their customers, minimizing the overall risk of fraud from the entire retail operation."
The IWS GoVerifyID identity authentication solution, in addition to being algorithm and hardware agnostic, enables plug-n-play technology and can be deployed globally as an enterprise end-to-end or modular solution that can be implemented in a matter of hours rather than days or weeks. GoVerifyID, which is a part of the GoCloudID™ platform that includes a software development kit (SDK), enables rapid integration into existing company programs and applications.
"Through our partnership with Fujitsu and their global omni-channel commerce solution, FUJITSU Market Place, the demonstration shows we can bring convenience and biometric-based security to retailing and 'e-tailing' via the omni-channel functions that Fujitsu Market Place addresses, improving customer service and overall enterprise efficiency," says Jim Miller, Chairman and CEO of ImageWare.

ImageWare Will Combine Technologies With TransUnion to Offer Biometric Authentication for Fraud PreventionImageWare Systems, Inc. (OTCQB: IWSY) (ImageWare), a leader in mobile and cloud-based, multi-modal biometric identity management solutions, announced today a new alliance with TransUnion. The alliance integrates TransUnion's ID Manager solution with ImageWare's out-of-band biometric authentication product, GoVerifyID™, allowing ImageWare to deliver advanced fraud-prevention capabilities to organizations. The relationship also helps accelerate consumer adoption of biometric authentication.
Biometric authentications, which include voice, eye, signature, fingerprint and facial recognition, provide an additional layer of fraud defense to TransUnion's and ImageWare's customers. Through the relationship, consumer identities will be thoroughly analyzed using both biometric signatures and the TransUnion ID Manager platform. Both TransUnion and ImageWare customers will benefit from new seamless access to these fraud prevention tools.
"In the past 12 months, the scope and frequency of data breaches have placed a growing burden on U.S. consumers who are often frustrated with inadequate, excessive or ineffective responses to compromised data," said Jeff Brown, vice president of identity risk solutions at TransUnion. "Through our relationship with ImageWare, we can offer customers an added level of fraud defense that helps them quickly establish a trusted relationship with consumers."
Identity verification tools help organizations verify and ensure the correct customer is accessing information or accounts, which reduces risk exposure and potential loses. With biometric authentications, organizations can ensure they are integrating advanced fraud-prevention capabilities, while gaining additional consumer trust in their security procedures.
"Biometrics are the key to effective and seamless security in mobile channels," said Jim Miller, chairman and CEO of ImageWare. Jim Miller is the Chairman and CEO of ImageWare Systems, Inc.
SecurityStockWatch.com: Thank you for joining us again today, Jim. There have been many significant positive developments at ImageWare Systems since we sat down together about 1 year ago. Please update us on your recent deals with Fujitsu, IBM and T-Systems.
Jim Miller: Thank you and always a pleasure. Fujitsu, T-Systems, and IBM are three Blue-Chip companies we have gone to market with. These large, established partners offer the support, brand name and worldwide cloud platform needed to seamlessly distribute our products.
At the beginning of April, Fujitsu announced the kick-off and worldwide expansion of our partnership model with a dedicated sales team covering the Americas. Since then, Fujitsu and ImageWare have closed a three-year agreement with a major international retailer who will use the IWS CloudID® products running in the Fujitsu cloud for face, finger, iris, and voice enrollment and matching. Additionally, Fujitsu has set up proof of concept pilots with several of their major customers, with more expected in the near future, and has kicked off sales and marketing of the partnership products in Japan and China.
Our partnership with T-Systems has led to a project with Deutsche Bahn, the German national railroad, who is slated to become the first customer receiving our joint product offering. We expect more to follow and anticipate this agreement will begin producing revenues in the fourth quarter.
While IBM’s BlueMix is in the early stages, we are in active discussion with referrals from IBM BlueMix. Blue Mix is currently in the late beta stage, but is expected to be in full production during the fourth quarter of this year.
We see partnering with these third parties as a vital part of our plan to extend our brand and market; while, at the same time, serving to validate our disruptive technology as well.
SecurityStockWatch.com: In addition to Fujitsu, IBM and T-Systems, we understand that IWSY also has additional key partner relationships with CSC, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft and United Technologies, just to name a few. Please tell us more.
Jim Miller: Just as we are doing in the cloud and mobile markets, ImageWare has traditionally partnered with many large companies - with Unisys, we did the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, with IBM Global, we did the Canadian TSA, with Johnson Controls ,we supply biometric software for access control implementation, and others, such as Raytheon and CSC - to bring our patented multi-modal based identity management product suite to the government market place, which as you know, was one of the first to adopt biometric technology. Partnering is a key part of our go to market strategy. I think it’s safe to say that “we play well with others.” While we are able to share in the benefits of the global reach of our partners, we are also able to provide them with cutting edge biometric technology that they can use to create new revenue streams with our pioneering revenue sharing software as a service model.
SecurityStockWatch.com: It is truly a validation of ImageWare Systems’ business model and market positioning to have such an extensive list of global blue chip partners. Please give us an overview of the products and solutions IWSY brings to market.
Jim Miller: Sure. ImageWare Systems delivers multi-modal biometric user authentication with patented, agnostic, plug-n-play technology. We promote interactive communication and Out-Of-Band Authentication via mobile devices, on premises, and in the cloud. Three foundational technologies form the basis of ImageWare’s multi-modal biometric and credentialing offerings: Biometric Engine; GoCloudID; GoMobile Interactive.
- Biometric Engine®: A patented, real-time, high performance, cloud-enabled, multi-modal biometric database that delivers unmatched performance and scalability. It supports massive populations, petabytes of identity data, and is software/hardware agnostic.
- GoMobile Interactive™(GMI): A patented, multi-modal biometric user authentication solution for mobile devices utilizing facial and voice recognition. Also, GMI recently was the first place recipient of CTIA’s Emerging Technology Award under the Mobile Money, Payments, Banking & Commerce category.
- GoCloudID™: Cloud-based SaaS ID Management Platform offering Web portal access for customer/partner provisioning with no start-up cost.
On top of these three offerings, we also provide a turn-key software called GoVerifyID™ that enables Out-Of-Band verification using any mobile device. For the user, no mobile front end coding is required and this software can be integrated into existing enterprise applications. It can be licensed or available as part of GoCloudID’s subscription.
IWS is NOT a traditional user authentication provider. Instead, we built our path here with customized multi-modal biometric solutions and inspired acquisitions, leading IWS to arrive in the biometric user authentication marketplace as a disruptor:
- Our Biometric Engine® scales up to hundreds of millions of identities, to support the needs for true cloud services.
- Multi-modal is the obvious future, while our products have been in the market for over 10 years.
- Our multi-modal offerings are protected by patents.
- Our GoMobile Interactive™ (GMI) delivers a dynamic messaging service that skips software integration and replaces it with multimedia push messaging.
- GMI revolutionizes mobile security with multi-modal user authentication.
These combined, summarize IWS’ innovation in the user authentication market.
SecurityStockWatch.com: Can we drill down a bit further into GoCloudID™, an agnostic, cloud-based, Identity Management Platform that reliably manages access to biometric enrollment & verification with no start up costs. The market drivers here seem to be very well aligned with the features and capabilities of GoCloudID™. Your thoughts?
Jim Miller: Yes, GoCloudID is a cloud-based, multi-modal biometric identity management platform that puts reliable, simple, and cost-effective identity verification onto your mobile applications so that you can provide fraud prevention and identity protection for your customers. It offers full (biometric and biographic) and anonymous identity management, provides rapid development and deployment of customized standard-based identity solutions; dynamic scalability allows for the space maximization of web and mobile applications; easily reconfigured to adapt to customer requirements and emerging technology. Also, GoCloudID’s rapid integration with new and existing applications supports a pay-as-you-go model.
Two significant innovations differentiate this next generation identity platform:
- CloudID® extends the flexible, technology/vendor- independent “plug-in” approach, which ImageWare invented for biometric applications across the entire identity platform, creating a layered, highly modular product suite.
- CloudID® achieves optimal performance whether delivered as part of traditional on-premise client server computing solutions, or embedded in cloud-based services.
IWS CloudID® is easily incorporated into new or existing cloud-enabled environments or integrated as cloud-ready software into traditional networked client server and data center IT infrastructures. CloudID achieves optimal performance in either configuration and is easily transitioned from non-cloud to cloud environments.
SecurityStockWatch.com: Congratulations on your recent announcement to implement a multi-modal biometric driver license system for the State of Baja California, Mexico. Can you give us a bit more color about this “win”?
Jim Miller: Sure. State of Baja California is the rapidly growing twelfth largest state by area in Mexico, with 2.8M population. IWS multi-modal software will power the driver’s licenses for this state including Tijuana, Mexicali, Tecate and Rosarito, as well as implement mobile stations throughout the state. The multi-modal biometric driver license system will be based on ImageWare’s CloudID™ modular software platform that supports the rapid development and deployment of highly secure, yet flexible identity management solutions for the creation of credentials, including IDs, passports, driver’s licenses, smart cards and access control credentials. IWS CloudID® is designed to deliver a “future proof” identity management solution, allowing unlimited population sizes and stations, as well as adding additional biometric modalities and incorporating new biometric devices. ImageWare’s software will help generate more than 1.5 million licenses over the next three years.
SecurityStockWatch.com: Few companies, regardless of size, can match the track record IWSY has established:
- IWSY multi-modal biometric software platform manages millions of identities for a wide range of customers from the U.S. Veterans Administration and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA).
- ImageWare’s advanced credentialing software has issued tens of millions of identity cards, drivers’ licenses, passports, and visas in dozens of countries across the globe.
- More than 100 Law Enforcement agencies worldwide, including the Seattle and Portland Police Departments the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the New South Wales Police in Australia, trust ImageWare’s software to digitally capture, store and retrieve images/data for booking, investigative and identification purposes.
What’s next for IWSY?
Jim Miller: Quite a bit. We look forward to providing details on new partnerships as well as new users of our mobile, cloud-based products. Stay tuned.
SecurityStockWatch.com: Jim, can we discuss the Internet of Things for a moment? The benefits of IoT are clear…in seconds with our mobile devices we can pay a bill, send a gift, make a dinner reservation, check the stock market, and with ImageWare Systems’ pillphone® even stay healthy! Do we have this right…that ImageWare Systems’ pillphone®, a biometrically secured mobile health management application powered by GoMobile Interactive™ is an FDA-cleared application that tackles one of the toughest healthcare issues — treatment compliance?
Jim Miller: Yes, pillphone is a vertical example of what IWS’ GoMobile Interactive can provide. IWS offers a cloud-based enterprise identity verification solution via mobile devices, called GoMobile Interactive™ (GMI). It is an API- driven mobile platform that combines dynamic template-based messaging with multi-modal biometrics for added security.
Leveraging GMI, IWS developed a mHealth enterprise mobile APP called pillPhone®.
The pillphone is the only FDA cleared and biometrically secured mobile platform that connects patients, physicians, nurses, other care providers, insurers, and hospitals. It can be integrated with third party data providers. It is also backed up by medication studies showcasing improved medication adherence.
SecurityStockWatch.com: The Target breach is still causing repercussions, and, there are all too many headlines suggesting that in this era of IoT, with all of its many benefits, that we are also more vulnerable. Care to comment on how biometric authentication is perhaps the key to making us more secure?
Jim Miller: Yes, the breach to Target’s payment card systems during the 2013 holiday shopping season was a stark wake-up call to retailers and card-accepting enterprises across the globe. More recently we see Home Depot with a similar situation. These retailer breaches abound and cause substantial financial damage to the victims. We know many are looking for the best practice to avoid becoming the next retailer victim. We believe anonymous multi-modal biometrics may help to solve a piece of this problem.
Also, the most recent Apple iCloud incident with Hollywood celebrities reveal the weakness link in cloud services – our mobile phones. If not secured in the right way, these devices that we all carry 24/7 will expose our vulnerability to the world, in a second!
I think Lake Street Partners analyst, Jaeson Schmidt, has said this perfectly: “We are experiencing a perfect storm coming in the biometrics space: the emerging integration of biometric solutions in the consumer electronics market combined with an increased focus on preventing consumer fraud.” We believe ImageWare is very well positioned in this storm.
SecurityStockWatch.com: What resources are available at ImageWare Systems for the IWSY community?
Jim Miller: Yes, we have a full list of social media that people can follow us.
