The SSW 100 Index dropped 1.2% from 220 to 218 in April. It was its first decline in six months and uncharacteristically it underperformed against the majors. The NASDAQ was also down, dropping 0.7% from 2,340 to 2.323 (175 to 174 on a comparable index basis), but the Dow and the S&P were both up. The S&P rose 1.2% from 1.295 to 1,311 (147 to 149 on a comparable index basis) and the Dow rose even more sharply, up 2.3% from 11,109 to 11.367 (133 to 136 on a comparable index basis). Decliners outpaced gainers by 48 to 41 with one even. Thirteen of the down issues dropped by more than 10%, with ten of those declining by more than 15%. Of the gainers, nine rose by more than 10%.
