SSW 100 Index Virtually Unchanged in September  

In a month when the major indexes turned in nice gains, the SSW 100 Index while virtually unchanged was fractionally down 0.2% from 202.7 to 202.2. The NASDAQ led the majors increasing 3.4% from 2,184 to 2,258 (164 to 169 on a comparable index basis). The other two increased posted almost the same increases: the Dow increased 2.6% from 11,381 to 11,679 (136 to 140 on a comparable index basis) and the S&P 500 rose 2.5% from 1,304 to 1,336 (148 to 152 on a comparable index basis).

Gainers and decliners were almost even at 51 up and 48 down with one even. Eleven of the gainers were up more than 10% and four of those posted better than 15% gains. On the down side another eleven were down by more than 10% and five by more than 15%.

Posting more than 15% gains were:

LaserCard Corporation (LCRD) up 31% to $13.04
American Power Conversion Corp. (APCC) up 25% to $21.96
Juniper Networks, Inc (JNPR) up 18% to $17.28
Checkfree Corp. (CKFR) up 15% to $41.32

Dropping by more than 15% were:

Napco Security Systems Inc. (NSSC) down 38% to $5.96
Corrections Corp. of America (CXW) down 31% to $43.25
Authentidate Holding Corp. (ADAT) down 22% to $1.64
Evergreen Solar Inc. (ESLR) down 18% to $8.30
Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals Inc. (HEPH) down 16% to $5.29
