SSW 100 Index Up Sharply in October  


In a very strong month, the SSW 100 Index posted a sharp 5% gain rising from 202 to 212. Of the majors only the NASDAQ kept pace, rising 4.8% from 2,258 to 2,367 (169 to 177 on a comparable index basis). Lagging behind the Dow still rose 3.4% to record highs going from 11,679 to 12,081 (140 to 145 on a comparable index basis) followed closely by the S&P 500 which was up 3.2% from 1,336 to 1,378 (152 to 157 on a comparable index basis)

Gainers far outpaced decliners by 69 to 29 with two even. Almost a quarter of the gainers were up by more than 10% (twenty-four) with six increasing by more 20%. Only seven on the downside dropped by more than 10%.

Jumping by more than 20% were:

    Applied Digital Solutions Inc. (ADSX) up 47% to $2.38
    Nuance Communications, Inc. (NUAN) up 41% to $11.54
    American Power Conversion Corp. (APCC) 38% to $30.23
    Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals Inc. (HEPH) up 34% to $7.09
    Deluxe Corp. (DLX) up 33% to $22.67
    RAE Systems Inc. (RAE) up 27% to $3.86

Decreasing more than 10% were:

    LaserCard Corporation (LCRD) down 19% to $10.57
    Strategic Diagnostics Inc. (SDIX) down 17% to $3.21
    Cogent Inc. (COGT) down 16% to $11.50
    KVH Industries Inc. (KVHI) down 14% to $10.92
    CyberSource Corp. (CYBS) down 13% to $10.25
    Armor Holdings Inc. (AH) down 10% to $51.56
    Geo Group Inc. (GEO) down 10% to $38.00
