Dear
Friends of SecurityStockWatch.com, “Infineon has jointly developed with Sony, a secure integrated circuit (ICs) for contactless chip card systems. The Infineon contactless crypto–microcontrollers will incorporate Sony’s contactless chip card technology called "FeliCa.” This joint development not only became the de facto payment standard in Japan for eticket and epayment, it also expanded the contactless chip card market to include multi-application cards, card terminals and background infrastructure systems for data management. These are among the insights discussed by Dr. Joerg M. Borchert, Vice President Chip Card & Security IC’s, Infineon Technologies North America in an exclusive interview. | And, Ms. Kate Fortney, Director - Government ID & Security for Gemalto, told us, “I think there are five major drivers that will shape how fast and to what degree the Secure ID market evolves: 1. Homeland Security Presidential Directive -12 (HSPD-12): A majority of federal agencies have achieved the milestone of issuing a HSPD-12 credential by Oct. 27, 2006. What remains to be seen is how aggressively the various agencies pursue a full issuance of credentials to all federal employees by October 2008. Mr. Glenn Brunette, Distinguished Engineer and Director, Global Sales and Service Security Office, Sun Microsystems said, “It is an unfortunate fact that in many environments, IT security is simply an afterthought. While not universally true, we see all too often see cases where organizations become concerned with security only after they have endured substantial pain as a result of a failed audit or, even worse, a security breach. In other organizations, security is viewed as a simple matter that can be “solved” using a product or set of point solutions (e.g., virus scanner, firewall, etc.). In still others, it is viewed through a lens reflecting only a particular view of the problem space (e.g., security is addressed only by network security controls).” You may view the entire interview here: www.securitystockwatch.com/Interviews/in_Boardroom_SUNW.html. |
